Who This Course Is For
Target Audience & Prerequisites
Mining farm operators, facility managers, electrical technicians, and high-density computing supervisors managing sustained loads between 20kW and 500kW.
Recommended Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of AC voltage and circuit breakers. Prior experience operating computing or mining equipment is recommended but not mandatory.
Key Competencies
Core Practical Outcomes
- Calculate exact branch circuit and main feeder ampacities adhering to the 80% continuous duty safety threshold.
- Identify high-resistance electrical connections using calibrated Fluke thermal imaging cameras before hotspots cause thermal runaway.
- Select correct conductor gauges (THHN/THWN-2, XLPE) adjusted for ambient temperature rise and conduit fill derating factors.
- Implement proper dual-pole 240V and 3-phase 380V/415V PDU distribution architectures to prevent neutral line overload.
- Execute calibrated torque wrench tightening on breaker lugs and busbars to precise manufacturer Newton-meter (Nm) ratings.
Detailed Syllabus
Curriculum Modules & Bench Schedule
Step-by-step breakdown of classroom engineering lectures and practical hands-on laboratory exercises.
Day 1: Continuous Load Physics & Branch Circuit Engineering
- Ohm's Law & Joule heating in continuous 100% duty cycles vs intermittent residential loads
- The 80% Rule in National & Korea Electrical Codes (KEC / NEC Article 210.20)
- Calculating real vs apparent power (kVA vs kW) and power factor correction under switched-mode power supplies (SMPS)
- Voltage drop calculations across 10m to 50m feeder cable runs
Day 2: Conductor Sizing, Terminal Lug Torque & Thermal Profiling
- Ampacity correction tables for 35°C–50°C facility ambient temperatures
- Conduit fill derating when bundling 4+ current-carrying conductors
- Thermal imaging inspection: recognizing ΔT > 15°C anomalies on breaker terminations
- Proper terminal preparation: anti-oxidant compound usage on aluminum conductors and torque calibration
Day 3: PDU Architecture, Neutral Current Management & Emergency Disconnects
- C13/C14 vs C19/C20 connector load limits and IEC 60309 pin-and-sleeve industrial plugs
- Harmonic currents in 3-phase Wye systems and preventing overheated shared neutrals
- Shunt-trip breaker installation and emergency power off (EPO) interlocking
- Practical bench exam: wiring a 30A 240V PDU test bench with fault simulation
